A Framework for a Mental Health Strategy for Canada
The Mental Health Commission of Canada was created by the Government of Canada in the spring of 2007. In the summer of 2008 the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) began work on developing a framework for a national mental health strategy. “TOWARD RECOVERY & WELL-BEING” was released in 2009 and outlines 9 goals for mental health in Canada. This important document makes a valuable contribution to suicide prevention in Canada. The Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention (CASP) is working with the MHCC to explore how the mental health strategy and CASP’s blueprint for a national suicide prevention strategy can support and compliment each other. CASP is pleased to have the MHCC as an ally and friend in suicide prention. CASP will continue it’s efforts to both work collaboratively with the MHCC and at the same time advocate for a national strategy for suicide prevention.
