A National Film Board documentary:
drawing from life - moving away from suicide towards life
A documentary – animation hybrid
How do people learn to live rather than to die? Drawing from Life follows a group therapy workshop for people who have attempted suicide more than once. A hybrid of vérité documentary and animation, this unusual film’s visual metaphors illuminate the thoughts and feelings of its participants. This candid portrayal of twelve people who together, for 20 weeks, take on their fears, their behaviours and their ghosts to move towards life and away from suicide. It’s a surprisingly uplifting and universal story about what it means to be alive.
Drawing from Life is a production of the National Film Board of Canada Filmmaker-in-Residence project, produced with the creative participa tion of Seneca College of Applied Arts & Technology, Animation Arts Centre.
