We at CASP are aware there has recently been some media regarding suicide that is concerning in its departure from accepted guidelines with respect to safe reporting. While we feel it is very important to flag such material and share our concerns both in the interest of improving understanding and reducing risk, we also do not wish to draw even further attention on material we believe has potential to do harm. Please be assured that when CASP becomes aware of concerning content we do take pains to connect with those who have created it to share our concerns and direct them to the guidelines created by journalists for journalists with the support of the MHCC. We also promote safe reportage via the CASP media award to provide examples of appropriate and safe media coverage regarding this crucial issue.
